Our God is Too Small or Our Big God

Our God is Too Small or Our Big God

Over at the “For the Love of God” blog, D.A. Carson takes up Psalm 139. He’s concerned that our God is too small:

There is a perverseness to human thoughts about God that would be risible if it were not so tragic. We find ways to make him small. A marvelous antidote is Psalm 139. It paints an exalted picture of God, yet does so in stunningly personal ways, as befits a psalm.

What are the “stunningly personal ways” the psalmist displays an exalted God? Carson details four:

God sees and knows everything (139:1-6).
God is omnipresent, and therefore inescapable (139:7-12).
God is Creator and providential Ruler (139:13-18).
God is utterly holy (139:19-24).
For helpful commentary on each of these points, see the whole post here.

Tribal priest comes to Christ, frees sex slaves

Ghana (MNN) ― Sex slavery is rampant among tribal religions in Ghana. In a system commonly referred to as Trokosi, girls are given to tribal priests as payment for sins. “Trokosi” means wives or slaves of the gods.

Every Child Ministries is rescuing these women and their children who were born into this environment. ECM co-founder Lorella Rouster says ritual servitude, or shrine slavery, is common.

Recently, Every Child Ministries liberated 55 slaves of the “Thunder god.”

Rouster says it was a long process that started five years ago. “We went to the priest’s home to meet the wives and to share the Gospel. We also met him and began to share the Gospel with him. At that time he was very interested.

Something New Each Day

God is so AWESOME! I went with my cell group coordinator to one of our cell group meetings in the afternoon. It was only couple blocks from my house.

At that meeting, there were 2 ladies who were Buddhists. They came to the meeting because the lady of the house invited them. The younger lady told us that she wanted to know who Jesus was, what Jesus could do, and she asked for healing prayer.

My cell leader was leading the cell group tonight. She started with an illustration how God cleansed our sins through Jesus who has died on the cross.

Then I led them into worship and praising God by singing a song and then prayed for the real discussion of the Word of GOD. We discussed about Faith from James 2:14-26. After heard the explanation, we divided the big group into a small groups.

Pengalaman Baru
