Congratulations, Graduate!

This month is special for a High School Graduate I know from our church! What an achievement in his life and now he is moving forward to Collage. To celebrate this graduation week, I created couple cards and this is one of them:

Congratulations Graduate! | http://helengullett.com/?p=4730 #handmadecard #diy #cardmaking #closetomyheart #ctmh

I cut Black Cardstock (1386) to make 4.25″x5.5″ base card. Then I cut a piece of 4″x5.25″ of White Cardstock (1385) to emboss it using Quatrefoil Embossing Folder (Z1926) with my new WRMK Evolution Advanced embossing machine (also for diecutting and letterpressing!), a surprise gift from my amazing husband! CTMH has 5 kind of embossing folders: Dot, Chevron, Quatrefoil, Damask and Stripe. Check them out here. I added the embossed cardstock on the card base using Tombow Adhesive (1514).

For make the hat, I cut 2″x2″ Black Glitter Paper (Z1829) and I punched hole using WRMK Crop-A-Dile. I made the tassel following this tutorial, easy and simple. Then I added the tassel on the hat and fasten it with yellow brad I got from Michaels a while back. I used Mini Glue Dots (Z341) to hold the tassel at the back and front hat.

Next, I cut the stripe banner shape from one of the pattern papers from Skylark Paper Packet (Z7177B) and I cut arrow out of the border. I added the Lagoon stripe banner on the card using Glue Dots (1772) to give a little bit dimension. I cut a piece of 3/4″ x 2.5″ from the quatrefoil pattern paper and stamped it with the sentiment from Banner Wishes (B1438) using Black Exclusive Inks Mini Pigment Pad (Z2503). While the ink still wet, I added some glitter embossing powder I got from AC Moore and then I heated it up with my craft heater (retired). Check out the pop-up and glittered sentiment! I have been having fun playing with pigment inks and glitter embossing powder 🙂 Then I added this stamped banner on top of the Lagoon stripe banner using Glue Dots (1772). The arrow small border I added using 3D Foam Tape (Z1151) to give more dimension looking.

Last step I added the hat using 3D Foam Tape (Z1151) on top of the banners, overlapping them a bit and finished the card with some Aqua Dots (Z1853).

Some Mother’s Day Cards

I hope you all had fabulous Mother’s Day last week! I had a very special Mother’s Day this year. An Indonesian church in Columbus, OH, invited us and asked me to share God’s word with them on Saturday and Sunday of Mother’s Day. I am blessed beyond measure! We all felt His presence with us, blessing us with His love, grace, promises and power.

Moms, God is love and He loves us unconditionally! By His grace and love, He enables me to be the mom to my daughters and wife to my husband. I am thankful every single day I can be there for them, serve them and love them. They are the one who make me feel special every day!

100th Mother’s Day Anniversary and DIY Gift Ideas

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

Do you know that this year is the 100th Mother’s Day Anniversary? Here’s what I found about Mother’s Day on Wikipedia:

The modern American holiday of Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in Grafton, West Virginia. Her campaign to make “Mother’s Day” a recognized holiday in the United States began in 1905, the year her beloved mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, died. Anna’s mission was to honor her own mother by continuing work she had started and to set aside a day to honor mothers, “the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world.” Anna’s mother, Ann Jarvis, was a peace activist who had cared for wounded soldiers on both sides of the Civil War and created Mother’s Day Work Clubs to address public health issues.

Due to the campaign efforts of Anna Jarvis, several states officially recognized Mother’s Day, the first in 1910 being West Virginia, Jarvis’ home state. In 1914 Woodrow Wilson signed the proclamation creating Mother’s Day, the second Sunday in May, as a national holiday to honor mothers. In a thank-you note to Wilson, Jarvis wrote of a “great Home Day of our country for sons and daughters to honor their mothers and fathers and homes in a way that will perpetuate family ties and give emphasis to true home life.” Jarvis became critical, however, of the commercialization of the day.

To celebrate this special day this year, we didn’t buy any gifts for my husband’s mom and grandma, we made them. Here’s what we made for them:

Sunflower Topiary

Celebrating 100th Mother's Day Anniversary & DIY Gifts| http://helengullett.com/?p=4705 #diy #silhouetteamerica #silhouettecameo #papercrafting #giftideas #mothersday #silhouettechallenges

I used my Silhouette Cameo to create this sunflower topiary gift. The cutting file I used is 3D Sunflower Round Topiary from Jamie Cripps collection. On Jamie’s blog, she has the tutorial how to put this topiary together. The papers I used is Dream Pop (retired), White Daisy and Topiary cardstock from Close To My Heart. For the green grass I cut gift bag wrapping paper I had in stash from Christmas 🙂

The second gift is 3D Paper Tulip with burlap wrapped bottle vase:

Celebrating 100th Mother's Day Anniversary & DIY Gifts| http://helengullett.com/?p=4705 #diy #silhouetteamerica #silhouettecameo #papercrafting #giftideas #mothersday #silhouettechallenges

For this one I used 3D Tulip from Lori Whitlock collection. I tell you, this is the easiest tulip flowers I ever made! All you need to make this flower are:

  • Silhouette Cameo, cutting file, cutting mat, and blade.
  • Cardstocks: White Daisy, Gypsy, Cotton Candy
  • Burlap
  • Glass bottle (I repurposed sweet tea glass bottle)
  • Gardening sticks (I found a pack at AC Moore). You also can use dowel or flower wire and wrap it with flower tape.
  • Glue Gun (or strong glue)

To make the tulips is very easy, cut the shapes, fold the pieces in half and glue them to it’s neighbor. Then insert the stick/dowel  and glue them with glue gun. I skip the leaves.

And for the vase, I wrapped the layers of burlaps using glue gun starting from the bottom and worked my way up to the top.

Hope you have the best Mother’s Day ever!!!

Deepest Sympathy

It is almost a week I haven’t posted anything and didn’t create anything because of all of us got sick since we got back from a road trip. First my husband, then my baby and I, and yesterday my oldest daughter had fever. We all caught the cold from whoever we made contact. But thankful that today everyone starts feeling better.

And I found out a friend of mine had lost her husband from a friend’s email. I am so sad to hear that. So, I went up to my craft room to make her a card…

thecardconcept5-colorinspiration

It is a CAS and one layer card. I have a retired stamp set, Card Chatter – Sympathy from Close To My Heart for the sentiment that I stamped using Black Pigment Ink from Basic Pigment Ink Pad Set. And for the dots, they are from Hello Bloom set and I stamped them using Pear from Adventure Pigment Ink Pad Set and Chocolate from Basic Pigment Ink Pad Set. After I stamped them all, I heated to dry the ink quicker but you can let it air-dry too.

The colors are inspired by The Card Concept Challenge #5:

A Card For A Friend

One of my favorites card challenges is Card Chain Challenge hosted by Deborah Nolan. She is awesome! There were 27 participants for the February challenge, check all the cards here. They are just beautiful cards!

The joy creating cards for friends and families is a blessing in my life. I can’t keep it to myself, sending the card to them is the way to spread the joy 🙂 Today I would love to share with you a card I made for my new friend, Wynette in Kansas:

There are 4 challenge options we can use for this challenge, and I picked the color palate, friend theme and wood veneer shapes. for this card. I used two of the CTMH new paper packets, Timberline Paper Packet and Ariana Paper Packet. The stamp set I used is You Are My Happy set (retired). The embellishments are Wooden-Shapes Garden.

This is a fun challenge, you send a card, you get a card. I got a wonderful card from Cat C. from Maryland.

Deborah has the March Card Chain Challenge registration open now…. you can sign up HERE until Wednesday, March 19, 11:55 PM EST. Let’s join the fun with us!
