Thankful Thursday

I would like to share one Thank You card on every Thursday. This is my first post on this Thank You Thursday! 😀 This is for ALL OF YOU, my readers!

2014-08-28-winnie&walter

I go with clean, simple and monochrome. On a 4.25″ x 5.5″ Kraft Card, I use VersaMark watermark ink pad to stamp those roses and leaves from The Big, The Bold and Extra stamp set from Winnie & Walter. Then I add some Ranger Super Fine Detail White Embossing Powder. I heat them up with my Craft Heater and love to see they melt into pretty solid embossed white roses.

The banner is from the same stamp set, and the sentiment is from Big Bold You stamp set. I stamp both banner and sentiment using Black Exclusive Ink Pad. Then I fussy cut the banner and add on the card using 3D foam tape for some dimension.

I use Vintage Photo Distress Ink to add some color on the edges of the card.

I appreciate the time you spend to read and write comments on my blog, THANK YOU! This is specially for you 😀 You mean a lot to me!

Virtual Blog Tour

It is Monday. As I am preparing myself to start this new week, no matter what we will go through this week I am reminded by the Lord that He is faithful and there is hope only in Him for those who depend on Him and to those who search for Him:

The faithful love of the  lord  never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The  lord  is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” The  lord  is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him. So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the  lord . (Lamentations 3:22-26)

A few weeks ago, my blogging friend, Ramona, invited me to join this Virtual Blog Tour. She is one awesome lady I met on blogging world who inspires a lot of her readers through link ups, reviews, inspirational posts, crafts and giveaways! Check out her blog here to see what she has shared with her readers.

Virtual Blog Tour is one fun blog-hopping to get to know each other and they have been doing. Each participant of this Virtual Blog Tour has to answer these 4 questions. And today I would like to share a little bit about me with you all 🙂

What am I working on?

As a stay home wife and mom who has a kindergarten aged daughter and a pre-schooler aged girl, I am busy with them every single day 🙂 Right now, I am working on a lesson plan for my preschooler while the oldest at school.

I am also one of Wycliffe Associates volunteers working on a project for Pacific Area ministry. And I am a volunteer translator at YouVersion Bible App.

On my spare time, I blog, do scrapbook layouts, make cards, DIY, crafts with my girls and crafting with friends.

How does my work differ from others of its genre?

In the last few months, I have been taking some times to seek God and reevaluate what I do and how it aligns with what He has called me to do. Couple weeks ago, when I attended a women blogging conference, Declare Conference, God confirmed me what and why. I know that God has given me the ability to do what I do to make his name known among to others through my role as a wife, a mom and a paper crafter.

What makes it different is that I do this as a servant to my Lord, a ministry to others. That brings joy and satisfaction in my heart, not only because it is my hobby or just because I can do it.

Why do I write/create what I do?

I realize that through all of these what I am doing here is a preparation for me and my family to go serving the Lord overseas, among the people in SEA*.

I write because God has called me to share the stories He is writing in and through my life and my family. I write because of my hope more people to know the needs of the Good News to be heard in the languages of the people in SEA*. I write because I want more and more people to stand in the gap between these people and God, to intercede for them because they cannot.

I write because I am their voices to you.

I am writing and creating with a mission for a mission.

How does your writing/creating process work?

I am inspired by a lot of people and learn from a lot of people. My writing process is not as easy as I write in my first language, but I am thankful for many times God helps me through a lot of friends and teachers, especially with my husband who has been a great help for me to improve my English, written and spoken.

First, I write my first draft which come from a lot of resources, for instance my quite time with the Lord, reading the Bible or reading a book, even every day life is full of inspirations to write 🙂 Then after I get my first draft, I will go back to read it again and write more. Sometimes, I post after editing my second draft, but sometimes, I need to go back and edit again for the third or fourth time.

And for my crafting process, I like to work with sketches. First, I will make plan. Right now, I am working with my daughters’ first year scrapbook albums. So I gather all of their pictures I want to put on the albums. Second, I will  find sketches or templates (for digital scrapbooking), then work on them as I can. For digital scrapbook layouts I created,  I want to make memory books for us to remember.

I love making handmade gifts and cards for family and friends. I make list what I want to make for who, search for inspirations and tutorials (from Pinterest, most of the time :D) and then I will work on them, sometimes I will ask extra time on the weekend to work on projects while my husband spend time with our daughters.

My church friends and I love to get together for craft night once in a while, for sure we always get together around October or early November to make hairbows and hairclips for Operation Christmas Child Show Boxes project.

When I can, I take pictures of steps how I create my project to share here on my blog 🙂

Next stop of this Virtual Blog Tour is my creative friend, Padni. We met at Stuck On U Sketches Design Team. And the most amazing thing is that we come from the same country! She is a scrapbook maker and teacher, loves handmade craft, home living stuff and photography. Check out her blog on September 1 to get to know her and to see what she’s been up to 🙂

I was in need of a masculine birthday card to send overseas. I went with simple colors and clean style. Here’s my card I created this card for using Silhouette Cameo:

IMG_1020_1

The cutting file I used for this card is 3D Standing Birthday Card from Lori Whitlock. I cut the card base using White Daisy cardstock. I added velum for the window and added another layer to make like a pocket and filled it with silver and gold sequins. For the scallop frame I cut a piece of Cocoa cardstock.

I colored the balloons with my Sharpies markers. The sentiment I used is from Banner Wishes stamp set and the banner is from For A Friend stamp set. Both I stamped using Cocoa Mini Pigment Ink Pad on a White Daisy cardstock, added some glitter embossing powder, and heated it with my Craft Heater. When it was cold down, I fussy cut the banner sentiment using Non-Stick Micro-Tip Scissors. Then I added it on the card using 3D foam tape for some dimension.

1 Design, 2 Anniversary Cards

I know some friends who celebrate their anniversaries in this month, at least 4 in 2 weeks! Apparently June is a favorite month people to get married… including us! LOL!

Celebrating their anniversaries, I made some cards for them… today I would love to share 2 of the cards I made with one design from The Cutting Edge Challenge, a new challenge blog, the challenge is to create new cards using any die cutting machine. The first challenge is to create using any of these inspirations:

Here’s are my cards inspired by bottom left card:

061814-cutting-edge-card1

The first card, I used the die cut flower petals and leaves on embossed background card. The die cut flowers and leaves are gifts from my card swap friend a few months ago. And the background card I embossed using CTMH Damask Embossing Folder with WRMK Evolution Advanced machine. I added some gems on the flowers and added them on the card using 3D foam tape.

The second card has the same embossed background card like the first one. I used Teal Shimmer Trim for the strips. The roses I cut with my Silhouette Cameo. To put them together, I used craft glue pen. I added some glitter on it. A bit more blings won’t hurt, right? I added the flower on the card with 3D foam tape.

The sentiment I used is from The Happy Couple stamp set (D1539) that I stamped it using Black Exclusive Inks stamp pad.

And they will be on their way tomorrow morning! I hope they’ll like them, and you too! 🙂 THANKS for visiting today!

Baby Owl Card

Joyful Stars - June 2014 Blog Hop | http://helengullett.com/?p=4889

Welcome to Joyful Stars June 2014 Blog Hop! New month, new blog hop from Joyful Stars CTMH Consultant team, new inspirations! I am excited to join this creative team every month to show case Close To My Heart products. You should be arriving from Joyce’s blog where this blog stars. If you happen to be here first, please visit her blog to see what she has created to share with this month blog hop.

And for this hop, I would love to share a baby card I made for our friends who just had a baby girl… She is one cute baby girl!!!

I made this card for her using Lollydoodle paper pack:

Baby Owl Card by Helen Gullett | http://helengullett.com/?p=4889 #closetomyheart #handmadecard #ctmh #watercolor

I used 2 sets of stamp on this card: B Is For Baby (D1561) and WOTG Lollydoodle Cardmaking Kit stamp (G1080). I stamped the sentiment, owl, and the branch differently. After I inked them, I sprayed the stamps with water using a spray pen. I sprayed just enough to wet the inked stamp and stamped the image on a piece of watercolor paper. And the water mixed with the dye ink will give the watercolor effect on the paper. LOVE IT! This a way to create watercolor image when you don’t have watercolor paint.

For the owl and the branch, I used Pear Exclusive Inks Stamp Pad (Z2197) and Chocolate Exclusive Inks Stamp Pad (Z2111). After they dried, I cut the owl and the branch and added on the card using 3D Foam Tape (z1151).

Baby Owl Card by Helen Gullett | http://helengullett.com/?p=4889 #closetomyheart #handmadecard #ctmh #watercolor

This owl stamp is super cute!! I love it so much! I think it’s cuter with some blings…. who doesn’t like blings? Especially for a cute little baby girl, right? 🙂 So I added some Sparkles Clear Assortment (Z1751) and some sequins that come from the Lollydoodle Cardmaking Kit (G1080).

Baby Owl Card by Helen Gullett | http://helengullett.com/?p=4889 #closetomyheart #handmadecard #ctmh #watercolor

For the tag, I stamped it with Cotton Candy Exclusive Ink Stamp Pad (Z2193). This tag compatible with Cricut Art Philosophy Collection (Z1686). I added the tag on the paper with 3D Foam Tape (z1151) to give some dimension.

The white banner I embossed a piece White Daisy cardstock using Chevron embossing folder (Z1925) with WRMK Evolution Advanced embossing machine. I added the banners on the card using Tombow Adhesive (1514).

For the inside of the card, I picked a quote from B Is For Baby (D1561) and stamped it with Cotton Candy Exclusive Ink Stamp Pad (Z2193). The rattle is from the same set and I colored it using Exclusive Inks Markers: Cotton Candy, Lagoon, Pear, and Sunset (lighter color).

And I decided to stamp the envelope also 🙂 I picked this beautiful vine from Love This stamp set (B1432). I stamped it using Pear Exclusive Inks Stamp Pad (Z2197) at the bottom front envelope and the flap of the envelope.
