Peace – SOUS Die Cut Challenge

Today is new challenge at Stuck OnU Sketches – Die Cut Challenge. This week new challenge theme is Into The Woods. You can create any projects that use die cuts like: woods, trees, deers, hunting, camping out, etc. As long as they are showing the theme and die cuts.

Here’s my card I made for this challenge:

IMG_3551.JPG

The watercolor paper itself is thick and curled when I colored with, so I added on my card base using strong adhesive to keep it laid flat well.

I cut the wood using my Silhouette Cameo. And then I attached it on top of a piece of watercolor paper using 3D Foam Tape.

IMG_3555.JPG

For the sentiment, I cut these words – Peace, Joy, Hope – all together using Watercolor Paper with my Silhouette Cameo. I used blade 6, Speed 3 and Thickness 33, double cut for the cutting setting.

Before I peeled them off from the cutting mat, quickly and lightly I added some watercolor paint on them. Let them dried for few minutes and peeled them off.

IMG_3553.JPG

Then I added the word Peace on my card using Liquid Glass, it is a strong and dries clear liquid adhesive from Close To My Heart.

Now, it is your turn to show us what you create for this challenge 🙂 Get your die cut machine to work this week and link up your projects here at Stuck OnU Sketches – Die Cut Challenge.. While you are there, check out the projects that the SOUS Die Cut Team have created for your inspirations 🙂

I cannot wait to check on your projects!

No Trick, Only Treat

We are the end of October! Can’t you believe that? Tomorrow is November already!!! Time flies so fast and one thing we can be thankful for is that God gives us enough time every day to enjoy His blessings.

One of those blessings we have in October is our little neighborhood. They have a fun tradition celebrating Halloween with Trick-or-Treating. This is our 5th Trick-or-Treat with friends. And this year, we had it on yesterday (it is almost always on the Thursday before Oct 31st, unless we get snow or rain then they will postpone it). It was fun day for the kids and super cold for me!

IMG_3063.JPG

The Big Girl wanted to be a Cheer Leader once she saw that costume at TJMaxx about 3 weeks ago. We had another plant for the Little Girl, she fit perfectly in this princess costume we got 4 years ago for her big sister. This is a sweet memory to remember…

IMG_1632.JPG

After going around our neighbors for Trick-or-Treating, our friends always held a little party at their house. They have potluck food and as always they cook yummy soups! Also, the kids can check what they got. The little girl kept showing me her stash on the way from one house to another. She was super excited to get CANDIES!

For them, I made some treat boxes for the kids at our friends’ Trick-or-Treating party at their house. I love this cute Jack-O-Lantern pillow box from Pebbles In My Pocket. I made 9 boxes in less than 10 minutes, including gluing and filling the boxes with candies. All you need for this project are Silhouette Cameo, cutting mat, blade, cardstocks, velum paper, glue, and candies. The machine cut 3 boxes at one time. I used Tombow Mono Liquid Glue to adhere the velum on the window and assembled these boxes. I made them simple and easy for the kids to open these boxes.

Stuck On U Sketches has a new Die Cut challenge today with theme: Trick-or-Treat. This boxes are perfect for this challenge 😀 Create a project using any kind of Die Cut machine with anything Halloween theme on your project. You have 14 days from today to link up your project here. Come and play with us this month with 3 challenges we have. See you there!

DIY Painted Pumpkins, Kids Can Do It!

A couple of weeks ago, we took the girls to a pumpkin patch where they picked their own sizes of pumpkins. It was an interesting thing to do as family for sure, especially now the little girl is walking and pretty much wanna do what her big sister does. We also thought that it would be fun for them to decorate it by themselves.

IMG_3039.JPG

I asked the big girl how she wanted to decorate hers by giving her some clues like with stickers, or glitter, or gems, or markers, or paint. And she decided to paint her pumpkin. And I thought… That will be a messy one!

And of course the little girl also wants to do the same thing like her big sister. So we went with Painted pumpkins.

IMG_2778.JPG

The big girl wanted a black car on her pumpkin. I thought would be easier for her to paint using stencil. So I got a cat shape at Silhouette Online Store for only $0.75 because Silhouette has 25% deal for all Halloween shapes until October 31. Scored!

I opened the shape on Silhouette Studio Designer Edition Software, resized it to about 4 inch tall and sent to cut the piece of cardstock.

After that I used pushpins to hold the cat cutout on the pumpkin and traced it using a pencil.

IMG_2780.JPG

Then she started to paint the cat using kids acrylic paint we had at home. You can use any kind of acrylic paint as long as it is safe for kids. Sometimes the fume from the paint is too strong for kids.

MAKE SURE you have enough scrap paper or old newspaper covering your table before you let the kids star painting.

The big girl took her pumpkin to her school Annual Fall Festival & Pumpkin show on Oct 18th, 2014.
IMG_2787.JPG

And for the little girl, she used Crayola Finger Paint for kids (this a no mess paint, washable and in tubes). I put red, blue, green and yellow on a paper plate. Then I gave her a brush but she asked for two because her big sister had more than one. Once she had a brush on each hand, she just went ahead express her creativity on her pumpkin.

And she loves her arty pumpkin!

IMG_2788.JPG

I was so afraid it could get super messy, but turned out both of them were so good with paints! And old newspaper surely helped to prevent the messiness 🙂

What did you do to decorate your pumpkin this year? Did you do it as a family?

A Warm Welcome Gift Basket

It less than 4 days our friends from Indonesia, who serve with a local mission organization will visit us and stay with us for 3 nights! I am so super excited! 😀 It has been a long time since we have guests from my home country. And to welcome them to our little home, I made little Warm Welcome Gift Basket with my Silhouette Cameo.

Stuck On U Sketches has their new Die Cut Challenge up on their blog now with theme: Everything Autumn. You are invited to play with our challenge and share your project you create with any of your die cutting machine that goes with the theme this week.

What you need for this project:

First open the file on the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition. The original size is small that makes easy to resize to as big as you want. I resized my basket. And then ungroup the shapes. First I cut the base basket using the Chipboard cardstock. I cut them all at once.

Screen Shot 2014-10-15 at 9.38.51 AM

Second time I open the leaves and resize them again, put them all around the space where they can fit so I can cut them all at once. I used the pattern paper for the leaves and the layer the base basket.

Screen Shot 2014-10-15 at 9.21.03 AM

I cut the paper basket shape into 5 pieces. I cut at their folding lines. It is easier to add them on the chipboard basket. After all shapes cut, I use my Xyron Max to add adhesive at the back of every piece for the basket layer paper.

20141027-sous-diecut-autumn-hg1

I used Liquid glue to assemble the basket after adding the layer papers on it. I love this liquid glue because it is multipurpose glue that can be used on anything, dries clear and even you can use to give some dimensional glossy looking on any flat embellishments.

I also made one layer Fall theme cards to put inside the basket with other knick knack. It is a quick one. I cut white cardstocks in 3.5×3.5, stamp it with Quick Cards – Autumn stamp set (retired) using Autumn Terracotta exclusive inks pad. I tied up some Natural Hemp and added some sequins to finish the cards.

20141027-sous-diecut-autumn-hg2

I embossed the trim pieces for the basket using Woodgrain Embossing Folder with my WRMK Embossing machine. I love the woodgrain looking for the basket. I added them on the basket edges using Tombow liquid glue. And then wrapped the Natural Hemp cord couple times. Before I tie up the bow, I added those leaves. I use the other side of the Pathfinding paper, the one side I use for the basket layering. Using liquid glue, I added the leaves one by one, made them like a cluster of leaves. Carefully curl them if you want like I did just the edge of each leaf.

I finish it up with a metal brad after I tied up the bow. For extra security, I added some Liquid glue. Let it sit to dry before I put all the goodies inside the basket. And all done 🙂

I hope you like it as much as I enjoy making it! Thanks for visiting and don’t forget to check SOUS Challenges this month!
Have a fun weekend!

DIY Fall Leave Paper Wreath

Fall! Fall finally arrived in our area. The colors of leaves decorate every hill and valley, the cooler and the freshness of the air is just perfect 🙂

I went looking for Fall/Autumn theme decorations from our storage and I realized that we do need more decorations in our house and my craft room, too 🙂 So here’s one of the the decorations I made:

DIY Fall Leaves Wreath, handmade by Helen Gullett @ Living My Given Life | www.helengullett.com #diy #papercraft #fall #thanksgiving #autumn #wreath #silhouetteamerica #silhouettecameo #homedecor

Have I told you that I LOVE MY SILHOUETTE CAMEO A LOT? 😀 This handy dandy die cut machine is amazing craft buddy ever! I started with searching for Fall/Autumn Theme cutting file from Silhouette Online Store and found a bunch of them with pretty good deal because I subscribe to their monthly subscription.

I found this pretty Fall Wreath. Open the file on Silhouette Studio Designer Edition. Resize it to the size you like. I did mine to 11″ x 11″. Because I used 10.5″ circle cake base cardboard as the wreath base. After I resized it, ungroup the shapes to cut with different colors.

Once the shape is ready, send them to cut one by one to Silhouette machine. I used Red, Orange and Dark green cardstocks for the leaves and dark brown for the pine cones.

I want the pine cones look more sparkly, so I added some glitter glue all over them and set them aside to dry while I was working on the leaves.

I added the vine for the leaves using my embossing tool and foam pad.

Oh look! They are prettier now 🙂

When I arranged them on the circle cardboard, the center need something. I decided to have a thanksgiving quote for the middle. I found the give thanks phrase in my library from Kolette Hall Studio. I resized it first to fit in the middle of the wreath and the cut it using Black cardstock.

I added some Chocolate Distressing Ink on the leaves with dauber sponge to give some rusty and fall-ish looking 🙂

When everything is ready, I put them together using Liquid Glass glue from Close To My Heart. The pine cones I added them the last with 3D foam tape.
