Joy To The World is one of my all time favorite Christmas songs. Many singers have sang this song in many different ways, but I love the classic just with piano or guitar.
I know it is August and I am sharing a Christmas card with you. On this card, I try a new technique called night / galaxy sky with distress inks.
I have been seeing and watching some YouTube videos how to create night sky, winter night sky and galaxy nigh. I tell you, they intimidate me a lot! First because I do not have supplies like those crafters have, and second because I am always nervous when it comes to try out new technique.
So, I pushed myself tried it with limited supplies I have 🙂 So, here’s my first night snowy scene.
I used the oval die came in the August My Monthly Hero Kit to die-cut the CTMH watercolor paper for the panel.
I most of the time using Distress Mini Ink Pads for watercoloring and this is my first time do blending with them. I used make up sponges for blending tool. Colors I used to create this background are: Black Soot, Antique Linen, Seedless Preserves, Salty Ocean, and Victorian Velvet. Then I added some splatter of water and dabbed it out with paper towel for some extra texture. I used my CTMH Craft Heater to dry it well.
Next, I heat-embossed the snowflake from Concord & 9th – Joy stamp set with VersaMark ink, mix of White embossing powder and Clear Glitter embossing powder, and CTMH Craft Heater. Oh I learned a lesson… Always never forget to use the embossig buddy! I had to re-do the adding embossing powder because the first time they sticked everywhere! And then I added some white paint splatters using wet brush and White Distress Crayon for some extra stars.
For the sentiment, I stamped and embossed the sentiment from the JOY stamp set and I used the JOY die set to cut out the Amercian Crafts – Silver glitter cardstock.
All pieces were ready to be put together. I used Tombow xtreme adhesive to add the background panel, then used Tombow vellum adhesive runner to add the vellum on it. Then using Tombow dual mono liquid glue to add the JOY die cut word on it.
So love the result! I need to practice more on this creating night and galaxy scene background 🙂 What do you think?
Thank You so much for visiting me today and I hope you are inspired! Have a fabulous blessed day!

Thank you so much for visiting Jane 🙂
You just brought me good memories :). I remember singing “Joy To The World”, among other Christmas songs, in the school choir over 30 years ago; I still remember some parts of the lyrics. It’s funny how the brain works… I would make a lot of effort trying to remember my meals this week :).
Your card is gorgeous… LOVE the colors you chose and how it turned out! I think you did a great job doing this technique for the first time! Yes, Distress inks take a while to dry completely when you blend many inks… even using a heat tool.
🙂 Always a good Christmas hymnal! Thank You, Cris!
Fabulous card, Helen! Can’t believe its your first time trying blending – it has come out very beautiful! I love the scene you’ve created and the silver die cuts – a wonderful card, all in all!
