Mixed Media Card: Peace

Hello everyone… It is almost a month Christmas has passed and we ended up with more Holiday themed stamps and dies. Today, I would love to share with you an idea you can stretch your Hero Arts Holiday stamps and dies to make non-Holiday cards.

There are many of Hero Arts Holiday stamps have sentiments that can be used on any occasions the Peace stamp and cut that I used today on my card. I am sharing this project also at a2z Scrapbooking blog.

My card today is also a mixed media card. I use the heat-embossing resist and watercoloring with Ken Oliver Color Bursts on this card.

Stretching Your Holiday Crafting Supplies, Hero Arts, Ken Oliver, Color Burst, Mixed Media, Watercoloring

To create the background I heat-embossed the Hero Arts – Vintage Rose Stem with Versamark ink pad and white embossing powder on a piece of watercolor paper. Then I heat set it with my craft heater.

I sprayed some water mix with Perfect Pearl powder on the paper and sprinkle the color burst powder on it. I dried in between adding colors until I am happy 🙂 Then on my craft mat, I sprinkle some of the Fuchsia, Lime Green, Orchid and Turquoise and sprayed with water to make watercolor paint. I painted the flowers and leaves with them.

Then I dried the whole panel with my craft heater. I stamped the Peace sentiment from Peace stamp & cut set on a piece of vellum with Versafine Onyx Black ink pad, sprinkled some clear embossing powder, then heat set it with craft heater.

I used black cardstock for the card base. Using lots of adhesive on the back of the watercolored panel, I added it on the card base, then I wrapped the vellum around the card using vellum adhesive. And I finished the card with some pearl gems.

a2z Scrapbooking store carries variety of Hero Arts products, including the ones I used on this project today. Mixed Media Card: God Bless You

Hello Everyone… I hope you all have a great week so far… From snowy and cold days, this week we have rainy, windy and warmer days. The girls would want to have more extra snow days, but this Mama loves Spring to get here soon… LOL!

It is time for an inspirations… I created a mixed media card and on this card today has that splash of Spring on it… the colors and the flowers, too 🙂

I added the one of the new ODBD – Plum Pizzaz Paper Pad, on the base card with permanent adhesive runner. Then using the Shutter stencil and metal spatula, I added the Ranger Texture Paste on the background. And I set aside to dry.

Then using MISTI, I stamped the flower from A Happy Hello Stamp Set from Our Daily Bread Designs with Moss Green, Yellow, and Purple Spectrum Aqua Markers on Canson Watercolor Paper. Then using the small watercolor brush, I traced the flower to give some watercolor look. Then I stamped it again with Versafine Onyx Black ink pad and added some clear embossing powder, then heat-set it with my craft heater. Then I added some glitter with Spectrum Noir Sparkle Brush. I fussy-cut it with my non-stick micro-tip scissors.

I die cut the ODBD – Stitched Ovals Dies to create the frame. I die-cut the banner from ODBD – Pennant Flags Dies and the matching stitched banner  from ODBD – Double Stitched Pennant Flags Dies, too. After I die cut them, I run it through the machine again to embossed them with the same dies to give them extra texture on it. Then I stamped the sentiment on the banner die cut with Versafine Onyx Black ink pad. Papers I used for these die cuts are from ODBD – Plum Pizzaz Paper Pad.

I put all the pieces together using Glue Dots small, medium and thick. I used glue dots becuase I want to have some dimensions to the layers and they will be added right on top of the texture paste. And glue dots will hold them strongly on the texture paste 🙂

And I finished my CAS – Mixed Media Card with some purple sparkly dots using the Ranger Purple Stickles.

Art Journal: Explore, Create, Inspire, Art, and Imagine

Hello again everyone… Today I share 2 blog posts on mixed media The first one is a mixed media card that you can read all about it here. And this is my second post about a mixed media art journal page.

I have been watching some YouTube videos on art journal for beginner and challenged to start this new art journal adventure thjs year 🙂 This two amazing artists, Maremi SmallArt and Carolyn Dube inspire me to get started!

hls-mmd-jan2017-helengullett1

This is my first time creating an art journal page, a mixed media project larger than tag or card! Honestly it was very intimidating and I was so nervouse when I looked at my brand new Canson Mixed Media XL journal book. But then I reminded myself that I need to step out of my comfort zone to be able to learn something new. So I did. Stetching myself from “tag and card” size zone into “art journal” size zone! 😀

hls-mmd-jan2017-helengullett3

I prepped my page with some white gesso and spred it with my palette knife. Then I added the Merry Go Round stencil on my page and randomly I spread some the texture paste with palette knife on the page. Using my pre-heated craft heater, I dried the page.

Then I stamped the circles from Mixed Media Fun stamp set with Archival Black ink pad on the page randomly.

I added some of the light gree, dark gree, blue, light blue and teal gellatos on the top of the page, blended them with my finger, then sprayed them with some water, and let them dripped down the page to add more color to the page.

hls-mmd-jan2017-helengullett4

I ended up with some ink on my craft mat, so I grabbed couple of watercolor paper that I have pre-cut them and smooshed them in the ink. And set them aside to dry while working on the next step.

On my craft mat, I mixed some light blue gellato with texture paste, then I added it on the page with Crisscrossed stencil. I dried them with my craft heater.

hls-mmd-jan2017-helengullett2

Then I added some extra yellow and white using the Big Stamper brush pen and blended it with my finger on the page and the watercolored paper. I also added some line border on the watercolored paper.

I have some matching monoprints, stacked them together with the watercolored papers, added some lace ribbons, and I stapled them with my Mini Stapler, and added them on my paper with 3D foam tape and some liquid glass glue.

I stamped the words on stripes of white cardstock, cut them out, added some shadow with Big Stamper brush pen, and added on the page with liquid glass glue.

And here are the supply list I used to create my art journal page today:

  • Crisscrossed ARTplorations Stencil (STAMPlorations)
  • Merry Go Round ARTplorations Stencil (STAMPlorations)

Mixed Media Card: Keep The Faith

Hello everyone! It has been a fabulous first week of the New Year for us here and we finally got some snow 🙂 Both of my daughters, especially, are very happy!

Walking into 2017 with faith knowing God holds the future and has planned each day for us according to His will and will give us peace. Keep the faith, my friend for God walks before you and will help you step by step.

Today, I would love to share with you a happy news. Starting this month until March, I am joining STAMPlorations – Theme and Sketch Challenge Team as Guest Designer. So super excited to be part of this team!

You are invited! We would love to see your projects using the theme and/or the sketch of January challenge:

Our definition of mixed media is using stamps and ink, plus at least 2 other elements, either techniques and/or products. And here’s my mixed media card using the theme and the sketch and my new stamp set!

I used the Faith Expressions stamp set and Crisscrossed ARTplorations Stencil on my card. Techniques I used to create my card are stamping, watercoloring, stenciling, and inlaid die-cutting.

Mediums I used are Versafine Onyx Black ink pad, Tombow Dual Brush Pen, Spectrum Aqua Markers, Spectrum Noir Sparkle Clear Glitter Brush, Heidi Swap – Silk Screen, and water for watercoloring the background and painted the stamped flower.

For die-cutting I used ODBD – Snowflake Sky Dies and Double Stitched Rectangles Dies.

The Design Team share their project inspirations on STAMPlorations Blog and I hope you all can play along with us this month! By linking up your projects with this challenge, you have chances to win the prizes from STAMPlorations!

CAS Mix Up January Challenge

Mixed Media: Potted Succulent Thank You Card

Happy New Year to you and your family! Let’s kicking off the 2017 with some creative challenges! I created a mixed media card with some embossing paste, embossing powder, watercoloring and die-cutting.

a2z-jan2017-challenge-helengullett1

Hero Arts products I used on my card today are:

  • Potted Succulent stamp & frame cut
  • Thanks Stamp & Cut
  • Petal Stencil Pair

To create the background, I added the Ranger Texture paste on the canson watercolor paper using the one of the Petal Stencil Pair set, then I added the Ranger Princess Gold embossing powder while the paste still wet and set aside to dry while I was working on the potted succulent and die cut.

a2z-jan2017-challenge-helengullett2

I stamped and die cut the Potted Succullent. Then I watercolor it with Spectrum Aqua markers. Then I added some glitter using the Spectrum Noir Sparkle clear glitter brush.

Next, I die cut the word thanks out of Black cards stock and black fun foam for extra dimension.

Before I added the watercolored Potted Succulent and sentiment die cut on the card, I heat set the embossing powder using craft heater. I pre-heated the heater for 15 seconds then run it over the card. It was fun to watch the embossing powder melt on top of the embossing paste 🙂 Once it is done, I added  the embellishments with liquid glass glue.

a2z-jan2017-challenge-helengullett3

I also stamped the inside card with the sentiment from the Thanks Stamp & Cut set. That finished my card for today. Don’t forget to check out a2z Scrapbooking Store for your crafting supplies and deals, also take extra 15% OFF your order of $25 or more by using this code: Helen15 when you check out!
