Untraditional Valentine’s Day Card

Welcome to our February Joyful Stars Blog Hop. If you are here from Nickie’s blog, then you are on the right track. But if you are here first, then you can continue hopping through my fellow CTMH consultants’ blogs to see their projects. The blog hop starts from Joyce’s blog where you also can see the complete list of this month blog hop participants just in case you got lost in the middle.

This month, we are celebrating Valentine’s day, so I made a Valentine’s card.

An Untraditional, Masculine Valentine's Card | by Helen Gullett | www.helengullett.com

I say this is an untraditional Valentine’s day card ๐Ÿ™‚ This card I made for my husband pre-Valentine’s day, though I wanna give him a love note.

This card I made using one of CTMH Cut Above collections, Happy Birthday Card Kit. Yes, a birthday card kit turn into a valentine’s day card. This Cut Above kits are amazing! I can make any cards in a zap! All pre-cut, comes with embellishments and foam adhesive. All you need is the sentiment stamp, ink pads, and adhesive runner.

For the sentiment, I used one of the new M-size stamps, Sweeter With You. For all M-size stamps you’ll need 2″ x 2″ My Acrylix Block. I added the stamp on the block and I stamped it with using Pacifica Exclusive Ink Pad.

Set aside the stamped sentiment, I assembled the pre-cut paper strips and added some stitching using the Stitch Guide. You’ll also need the Foam Mat to use with the Stitch Guide. Pretty handy tools. I love them!

I hope you like my card today ๐Ÿ™‚ Your next stop is Crystal to see what she has created for you ๐Ÿ™‚

12 Days DIY Christmas 2014 and Holiday Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

My mom loves baking cookies in this special season. She bakes yummy cookies, put them in little plastic jars for gifts and to sell them too. I used to help her with the packing and decorating the jars. How I miss her in this holidays.

I love making gifts that I feel it is a way to share the joy with others. And in the last 2 Christmas-es I made gifts for families and friends. This Christmas I make this cute little 3D coffee mug using my Silhouette Cameo.

IMG_4043.JPG

I found thisย 3D hot cocoa/coffee mug cutting file is from Lori Whitlock on Silhouette Design Store. Open the file at Silhouette Studio software, no need to resize, ungroup the shapes for cutting with different papers. First I cut Silhouette chipboard for the base and the hexagon for the bottom of the mug. Next I cut Snowhaven paper for the layering and the handle. I love the pattern from Snowhaven paper packet! They are just cool for Christmas ๐Ÿ™‚

Putting this mug is very easy. I used Xyron 1.5″ sticker maker for the rectangles and added them on the chipboard base (before fold it). Then, using glue dots secure the handle from inside. Fold the mug using on the score lines. For the base, I used double sided tape, I found it easier than liquid glue. Add the base from inside the mug and another one from the outside bottom. Final touch, I added some Slate Exclusive Inks Pad using a sponge dauber along the edges.

I filled this mug with a bag of hot cocoa and some sweet goodiesย ๐Ÿ™‚ Then I tied it up using the twine from Doodlebug Designs Christmas assortment twine. I cut the tag using Silhouette Cameo, stamped it with one of the sentiments from Be Jolly stamp set (CTMH Hostess Reward) using Ruby Exclusive Inks Pad. Oh I found this cute little Christmas light bulb in my stash and added little bling there ๐Ÿ™‚

I link this project atย a HUGE blog hop I ever joined, Holiday Coffee Lovers Blog Hop hosted by amazing Amy Tsuruta.

DIY Fall Leave Paper Wreath

Fall! Fall finally arrived in our area. The colors of leaves decorate every hill and valley, the cooler and the freshness of the air is just perfect ๐Ÿ™‚

I went looking for Fall/Autumn theme decorations from our storage and I realized that we do need more decorations in our house and my craft room, too ๐Ÿ™‚ So here’s one of the the decorations I made:

DIY Fall Leaves Wreath, handmade by Helen Gullett @ Living My Given Life | www.helengullett.com #diy #papercraft #fall #thanksgiving #autumn #wreath #silhouetteamerica #silhouettecameo #homedecor

Have I told you that I LOVE MY SILHOUETTE CAMEO A LOT? ๐Ÿ˜€ This handy dandy die cut machine is amazing craft buddy ever! I started with searching for Fall/Autumn Theme cutting file from Silhouette Online Store and found a bunch of them with pretty good deal because I subscribe to their monthly subscription.

I found this pretty Fall Wreath. Open the file on Silhouette Studio Designer Edition. Resize it to the size you like. I did mine to 11″ x 11″. Because I used 10.5″ circle cake base cardboard as the wreath base. After I resized it, ungroup the shapes to cut with different colors.

Once the shape is ready, send them to cut one by one to Silhouette machine. I used Red, Orange and Dark green cardstocks for the leaves and dark brown for the pine cones.

I want the pine cones look more sparkly, so I added some glitter glue all over them and set them aside to dry while I was working on the leaves.

I added the vine for the leaves using my embossing tool and foam pad.

Oh look! They are prettier now ๐Ÿ™‚

When I arranged them on the circle cardboard, the center need something. I decided to have a thanksgiving quote for the middle. I found the give thanks phrase in my library from Kolette Hall Studio. I resized it first to fit in the middle of the wreath and the cut it using Black cardstock.

I added some Chocolate Distressing Ink on the leaves with dauber sponge to give some rusty and fall-ish looking ๐Ÿ™‚

When everything is ready, I put them together using Liquid Glass glue from Close To My Heart. The pine cones I added them the last with 3D foam tape.
