Mixed Media Canvas: Kind, Fierce, Brave

TGIF! Friday means… weekend is here! 😀 Who doesn’t like weekend? I know my girls are so looking forward for weekends, especially warmer days. They get to play outside more and even better, more Day Light time!

In the morning, when my husband getting ready to leave for work, he called me to outside to show me something. Yah… we found Cicada shells on the ground! They have arrived in our area…

Screen Shot 2016-05-13 at 6.49.16 PM

This is my first time seeing this creature and I do not think I like them. My hubby showed me a video and man! I tell ya they are LOUD. But they are unique creature. They have pretty colors when they are adult and amazing life cycle: “The periodic cicadas spend most of their lives as underground nymphs, emerging only after 13 or 17 years, most likely to reduce losses by satiating their predators.” (Wikipedia)

It has been 14 years I think my hubby told me since last time they were here. So this year, there is a big chance we will go tent-camping and they will be around!!!!

And, we also found a beautiful Luna Moth resting on our Garage light.

I captured this photo with my iPhone and wish I had a good point-and-shoot camera to capture the beauty of its colors and details.

Enough with these wing creatures in our backyard, and up to my project 🙂

So, today project is also inspired by these wing creatures, I made a mixed media project contain one of the wing creatures, butterflies 🙂

Mixed Media Canvas: Kind, Fierce, Brave | http://helengullett.com/?p=9194

I found some white tissue papers and started stamping the butterflies from Butterfly Endearment stamp set (Unity Stamp Company) with CTMH – Archival Black Ink Pad. Even I had my craft mat on my table, I used a used copy paper under the tissue paper because it is so thin, it bleed through. I set them aside to dry complete. It did not take a long time to dry because it is tissue papers and thin. But if you do not want to way, you can dry it with craft heat gun. The heat gun won’t curl the paper at all. I tried that too 🙂

Mixed Media Canvas: Kind, Fierce, Brave | http://helengullett.com/?p=9194

I did simple steps on this canvas. I used Gel Medium (Dina Wakley) to adhere the stamped tissue papers on the painted canvas (oh I had the canvas painted with acrylic paint from FolkArt – Plaid Crafts couple weeks ago and just had no idea what to do with it yet, and now I do :D).

I used the heat gun to dry the Gel Medium after I added the papers on it. Then I added thin layer of White Gesso (Dina Wakley) and dry it with heat gun (this is speeding the process of making the canvas).

When the Gesso dried, I stamped more of the butterflies randomly using Memento LUXE – Tuxedo Black. Again I dried it with heat gun then I added some of the butterflies that I have colored them with Gelatos – Metallic Blueberry and fussy cut them with Micro-Tip scissors. I added on top of the stamped butterfly with Gel Medium. Then dried with heat gun.

Once the butterflies dried, I added some texture on the canvas using Shutters Stencil (ARTPlorations) with some homemade embossing/texture paste (you can go here to see my post about it) and kraft knife. This I let sit air-dry while I had my lunch 😀

I added some light shadows to the butterflies with Walnut Brown PITT artist pen – Big Brush. I finished my canvas with a quote from Brave Spirit Diamond Stripes stamp set (Unity Stamp Company) that I stamped on a strip of White cardstock, and glue it on the canvas, added some extra shadows on it with PITT artist pen Big Brush.

I spayed with some Gold Gelato that I mixed in a mini spray bottle for some shine, but it doesn’t show in the picture, though, but you can see some gold/yellow-ish color on the canvas.

My mixed media canvas is done 🙂

I really enjoy the process of making mixed media canvas; it takes time to wait a medium to try, but love the result of medium layering. Every time I create mixed media project, one thing I learn is that letting go of controls of what’s gonna happen. This is hard, but this is a good training for me, especially in life lesson, I am learning to be more flexible and trusting my life in the hand of my God who has the total and full control of my life.

I do hope you like the project today and thank you so much for visiting me. Have a fabulous day!

Mixed Media Tag: She

Mother’s Day is this weekend and one of my favorite Bible verses from Proverbs 31 is:

“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭31:25‬ ‭NLT‬‬

And I found a stamp with this verse from Unity Stamp Company, She Is Without Fear.

I have been making tags for my tag ring that I started early year. On these tags have favorite quotes, encouraging words and Bible verses, too.

Today, I would love to share a tag for my tag ring 🙂 and it is a mixed media tag.

Mixed Media Tag: She

I use Canson Watercolor Papers 140 lbs for my tags.

For this tag background, I painted with some Gelatos. I speeded up the drying process using my Craft Heater. When it dried completely, I stamped the image from She Is Without Fear using Memento Black Ink Pad.

Then I added some butterflies from Splatters & Flutter from ARTPlorations using homemade modeling paste.

It is I call a clean and simple mixed media, if there is such thing… LOL! 😀

My tag is done and is on the ring with the others 🙂

Thank You for visiting today and I hope you enjoy it, too!

Mixed Media Canvas: Have Hope

image

If you ask yourself today, “Is there hope for me today?” The answer is YES. There is hope for you today when start looking at THE ONE GOD who created you in His image and He has hopeful future for you.

Have hope.

The true hope only can be found in Christ Jesus. The One sent by God to the world.

But Jesus knew what they were planning. So he left that area, and many people followed him. He healed all the sick among them, but he warned them not to reveal who he was.

This fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah concerning him: “Look at my Servant, whom I have chosen. He is my Beloved, who pleases me. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not fight or shout or raise his voice in public. He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle. Finally he will cause justice to be victorious. And his name will be the hope of all the world.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭12:15-21‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This was prophecied by the Prophet Isaiah way before Jesus was born (Isaiah 42:1-4). God had given His promise of Savior and Redeemer to us. It is promised and fulfilled in Jesus Christ because God knows that the world we live in will never can give us the hope that we need to live day by day.

I need Him and He is enough for me to continue live my life in Christ Jesus.

My hope is found in Him only. My hope for my family and my hope for my friends. My hope to see the people of Indonesia will come to know Him and to worship Him is found in Christ Jesus and all what He had done for the world.

This though was in my mind when I created my second canvas yesterday.

I pray for each of you today to have hope for your present and future for God so loves you. I pray you will have hope in what who He is.

May you all have a wonderful week!

Mixed Media Canvas: Be Still And Know I Am God

My first mixed media canvas finally done after working on it for 1 and a half day. I am inspired by many artists both here and YouTube 😊 So thankful for so many people generously posted their tutorials.

Mixed Media Canvas: Be Still And Know I Am God

Mixed media is one of the thing I would like to learn more this year. So many techniques and products for the mixed media projet. I am learning and exploring ideas from many artists throught their blogs and YouTube videos.

Honestly, it is tough challenge for me because mixed media is a project that you need to be able to just flow with the moment, freely adding medium as you go to create an art. For “the not knowing the result” is me stepping out of my comfort zone. I read the 5 tips from Rita Barakat at Design Memory Craft blog post and they are practical but the number 5 is the most challenging for me: Let Go. But it is a challenge, right? Expect the unexpected.

Here are the close up pictures of  how I created this canvas from before to after.

Hope In God’s Plan

Jeremiah 29:11-12

This year I am praying and asking God to teach me about hope. As a reminder for me when I sit to make a plan each day, I have this word of God at front page of my planner album of the month of January.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you,” says the LORD. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.” (Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11-14‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

This is the true that there is hope in God’s plan for His people who loves him wholehearteadly.

There is hope when we seek His face wholeheartedly.

There is hope of restoration and healing in our lives when we find Him.

There is hope because God knows for sure what plans He has for each of us. They are good plans and not disaster, plans that will give us future and hope. But this does not mean that our days will be all smooth and good all the time.

Yes, there will be some difficult days in 2016 but there is hope in those days that God is in control and has plans for us to go through those hard days. He will make sure His plan will success and won’t fail. In those days, count it as joy like James reminded us in his book, that those are tests for our faith to grow and endure (James 1:2-4).

When God is in our day and we are in His word, we will experience His presence and recieve what He has store for us to live every single day.

God is hope. And only in His plans we’ll find hope.

I hope you find Him and the hope He has for you today. God bless you!

I did lots of splatters using Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors to create the background. Then when it’s dry, I used Flutters and Splatters stencil with Gold Stamper’s Big Brush Pen for the butterflies. Then I wrote the Bible verse using Faber Caster PITT Pens and I added some sparkles on them using the clear glitter glue amd white gel pen. I finished it with some gold polkadots washi tape from My Mind’s Eye and 3D white-gold snow stickers I got from Walmart.

This is messy page but I took time to make it, soak in the Word and just love the moment.
