Pioneers Media Archive – A Surprise in Language Learning

One day while working on language Dee asked me what the word “Amen” means. I was somewhat put back as she scurried to the back room and emerged with a Bible in hand! “This book is very good! Christians are very good!” Dee said with excitement. As I sat in awe I could not help but think, “Seriously God? The one house you put me in for language learning is the one where they are reading the Bible!”

God is working here in some amazing ways. This is just a small glimpse of what God is doing among these people.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Today’s bible memory verse that I read from the book of Proverbs chapter 3, verses 5 and 6.

“Trust in the Lord with all you heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will direct your paths.”

The meditation taken from New Living Bible:
When the Bible says we aren’t to trust ourselves or our own understanding, it doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t use our mind to think things through. God has given us the ability to reason, and he expects us to use that ability. The problem comes when we get an inflated view of ourselves because of our ability to solve problems. Sometimes, in fact, we may try plans A through Z until finally, in desperation, we ask God for help. Trusting in God completely means that we go to Him first, asking for His insight and guidance. Then He will want us to use our brain and devise our plans, but He will be in control.

100% to Missions

Dave Dorr:

Our church gives 100% of its budget to missions. That’s because our church is a mission.
Staff salaries are mission. Benevolence (our fund to support those who are in need financially) is about missions. Paying the rent, again, missions.
And why shouldn’t we think of church in America like this? Are we still under the assumption that we are the chaplains to our culture, to use Ed Stetzer’s apt illustration? We are missionaries. We are not at home, even in our home country. We don’t share similar world views with people outside of the body of Christ.

Your Family: Your First Ministry
Before anyone can qualify to lead others through preaching, teaching, or song, they have to first be able to lead their family. This responsibility falls first and foremost on fathers, who are charged by God to bring their children “up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Eph. 6:4). This is one of the foundational qualifications for leadership, “for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church?” (1 Tim. 3:4–5) We are called to diligently teach our children both as a lifestyle and in specific times as we gather (Deut. 6:6–7).
The sad truth is that for many Christians, leaders or otherwise, this foundational time of fellowship and instruction simply never happens.
