12 Days DIY Christmas 2014: Day 7

I like going to any Dollar Stores, Ollie’s or Big Lots to check on their $1 deals on home decor stuff 🙂 Most of the time I got some stuff from there.

Today’s project is decorating $1 stockings. Very simple! Add some gems or sequins on them. For our stockings, I added some gems for each of initial.

Supplies you need:

  • Plain stockings
  • Gems
  • Glue gun
  • glue sticks
  • Letters for tracing (or you can just arrange them simply like I did).

While the glue gun heating up, I arranges gems on the stocking to get the idea where to glue them later. For easy way doing it, you can trace each letter on your stocking using fabric pencil or pen.

Here’s the important thing to remember, BEFORE you glue, INSERT a piece of cardstock inside the stocking so the glue won’t glue your both sides stocking together. I learned that in a hard way. I had to pull apart the inside very gently, the good thing that I remembered that before I did all of them. Phew! Otherwise, it would be crazy day pulling these things apart or worse case I had to buy new stockings.

They cool down instantly after you add the gems. That’s I like working with glue gun 😀 Here’s what they look when they are done.

I was thinking to add some else, but I like simple and traditional stockings hanging down at our fire place. My oldest girl helped me hanging them in the order.

Now, the question from her… “What will you put inside my stocking, Mama?” LOL! She loves presents, so does her little sister.

Thanks for visiting today! And have a merry December!

12 Days DIY Christmas 2014: Day 6

Day 6. Half way… Still have some on my list to make for this Christmas 🙂 Today is project I wanna share is Felt Poinsettia. Having a toddler at home is a reason for not having living plant sitting around on end tables or anywhere where she can reach. Not to mention… she is a climber! She can find a way to get to something she wants to touch, including up side down laundry basket!

So, making fabric or felt flowers is an option. I go with felt. I still have a lot in stash because I love felt!

day6-felt-poinsettia-1

This felt poinsettia is very easy. I drew 3 sizes of leaf shape on a piece of photo copy paper. If it is hard to freehand drawing, here another trick to make leaf shape. First, draw rectangles in 3 sizes:

  • 1″x2″
  • 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″
  • 2″ x 3″

Then cut them curvy from center bottom to center top of the rectangles. There you will have 3 sizes of petals.

Use fabric pencil or regular ballpoint, trace them on red felts for the petals and green felts for the leaves:

  • 12 pieces 3″ petals
  • 12 pieces 2 1/2″ petals
  • 6 pieces 2″ petals

But depend on how many layers you want for your poinsettia flowers. Also cut extra circles that you will need to make the flowers. I used 3″ circles for these flowers.

Then using scissors, cut the felt while the glue gun heating up.

I added a dap of glue at every bottom of the petal and pinched it for couple seconds.

Then on the piece of circle, start glue each petals start from the leaves (I used 3 leaves) and then the biggest petals, medium and smallest. Overlap them on top each other.

Add some extra gems on top of it if you want. I have a big box of gems assortment I got from Hobby Lobby, so I glued the biggest ones in the center of each flower for extra bling 🙂

I hope these steps are easy to follow when you want to make some.

Thanks for stopping by and have a fun merry crafty day!

12 Days DIY Christmas 2014: Day 5

Today’s project is one of those projects inspired by Pinterest. And this is one of our new Christmas decorations this year.

A couple of weeks ago I found this simple and awesome tutorial of making this platte Christmas Tree light. I showed it to my husband and he said that it is doable and he would get some wood pallets for me. Sweet!

Last week he brought home couple of them for this project 🙂 I love my husband!

IMG_3829.JPG

You will need Christmas light, star, nails and hammer beside wood pallets. My husband got me this big and circle light at Big Lots for only $10!

IMG_3830.JPG

I took the bigger wood pallet inside the house because it was super duper cold to work on it outside. I cleaned any dirt or spider web using vacuum cleaner. On the tutorial, she did not paint it. So I did not pain it too. The original color is pretty in some ways.

Next is adding nails on the wood pallet. I started from top to bottom. The nails shape like a giant triangle.

Start to hook the light from top to bottom. On the tutorial blog you can see the diagram how to do it.

And it only took 15 minutes to finish this project! Plus my 2 years-old-daughter was trying to help with the hammer… 😀 And all of us LOVE the result 🙂

12 Days DIY Christmas 2014: Day 4

Today I wanna share a little gift mason jar that can be filled with any homemade jelly, or homemade jam, or hot cocoa mix, or candies.

IMG_3826.JPG

You can find this little mason jar at any local Walmart or craft stores. This size of mason jar is perfect for single serving of hot cocoa mix. That’s what I did 🙂

This time, instead of adding a tag, I decorate the lid. The middle lid comes off apart. I added a paper doily on the middle circle part and then screw it tight with the ring.

IMG_3828.JPG

And then I added a scallop printed old book paper that I punch using EK Scallop Medium size and added it in the middle of the lid using Liquid Glass.

To make the tag on top of the lid, I use Made From Scratch stamp set. Next on a strip of watercolor paper, stamp the plaid background pattern with Barn Red Exclusive Ink Stamp Pad, before stamp it spray a little bit of water to create the watercolor effect on the paper. Next, stamp the sentiment on a piece of White Daisy cardstock using Olive Exclusive Ink Stamp Pad, and then stamp again on another piece of cardstock in Barn Red, cut the heart and glue it on top of the green one. Add a little bit of glitter glue and then add some Liquid Glass to give the glossy and puffy accent on the heart. And then cut the label shape.

Using Liquid Glass, glue the plaid banner on top of the scallop paper, then with 3D foam tape add the label on top of the plaid banner.

I tie a little bow using Cranberry Baker’s Twine and I tuck it under the label using Liquid Glass.

And it is ready to give to someone you have on your “giving gifts” list 🙂

12 Days DIY Christmas 2014: Day 3

Today’s project , I am inspired by the idea of gift in mason jar that I saw on Pinterest.

But I did not use mason jar. I recycled candle jars 🙂

IMG_3782.JPG

To clean the left over candle wax in the jar, pour hot water in the candle jar and let it sit for few minutes until all wax come loose and they will float on the surface. DO NOT TOUCH the jar because it will be super hot! I learned that in a hard way.

When you see the wax floating and the jar is cool down, use your finger or plastic spoon to get them out of the jar. Then wash it clean with soap. I let it dry for over night or you can just wipe it dry with towel.

Once it is clean and dry, you cam decorate it or leave it clear, all up to you. I decorate it with Gold Polka Dot Washi Tape and Ruby Chevron Washi Tape.

Then I filled the jar with Kisses in Christmas colors. Then I added a tag that I cut a bunch of then with my Silhouette Cameo.

IMG_3781.JPG

I stamped the sentiment from Made From Scratch stamp set with Topiary Exclusive Ink Stamp Pad and the heart with Cranberry Exclusive Inks Stamp Pad. I cut the heart and glued it on top of the other one. Then I cut the label shaped and added on the tag using 3D Foam Tape for some dimension. I added a little gold christmas tree using Liquid Glass. Because regular craft glue won’t work on gluing glittery shape.

Finally, I added the tag on the jar lid with Topiary Mini Chevron Ribbon.
