Congratulations, Graduate!

This month is special for a High School Graduate I know from our church! What an achievement in his life and now he is moving forward to Collage. To celebrate this graduation week, I created couple cards and this is one of them:

Congratulations Graduate! | http://helengullett.com/?p=4730 #handmadecard #diy #cardmaking #closetomyheart #ctmh

I cut Black Cardstock (1386) to make 4.25″x5.5″ base card. Then I cut a piece of 4″x5.25″ of White Cardstock (1385) to emboss it using Quatrefoil Embossing Folder (Z1926) with my new WRMK Evolution Advanced embossing machine (also for diecutting and letterpressing!), a surprise gift from my amazing husband! CTMH has 5 kind of embossing folders: Dot, Chevron, Quatrefoil, Damask and Stripe. Check them out here. I added the embossed cardstock on the card base using Tombow Adhesive (1514).

For make the hat, I cut 2″x2″ Black Glitter Paper (Z1829) and I punched hole using WRMK Crop-A-Dile. I made the tassel following this tutorial, easy and simple. Then I added the tassel on the hat and fasten it with yellow brad I got from Michaels a while back. I used Mini Glue Dots (Z341) to hold the tassel at the back and front hat.

Next, I cut the stripe banner shape from one of the pattern papers from Skylark Paper Packet (Z7177B) and I cut arrow out of the border. I added the Lagoon stripe banner on the card using Glue Dots (1772) to give a little bit dimension. I cut a piece of 3/4″ x 2.5″ from the quatrefoil pattern paper and stamped it with the sentiment from Banner Wishes (B1438) using Black Exclusive Inks Mini Pigment Pad (Z2503). While the ink still wet, I added some glitter embossing powder I got from AC Moore and then I heated it up with my craft heater (retired). Check out the pop-up and glittered sentiment! I have been having fun playing with pigment inks and glitter embossing powder 🙂 Then I added this stamped banner on top of the Lagoon stripe banner using Glue Dots (1772). The arrow small border I added using 3D Foam Tape (Z1151) to give more dimension looking.

Last step I added the hat using 3D Foam Tape (Z1151) on top of the banners, overlapping them a bit and finished the card with some Aqua Dots (Z1853).

Some Mother’s Day Cards

I hope you all had fabulous Mother’s Day last week! I had a very special Mother’s Day this year. An Indonesian church in Columbus, OH, invited us and asked me to share God’s word with them on Saturday and Sunday of Mother’s Day. I am blessed beyond measure! We all felt His presence with us, blessing us with His love, grace, promises and power.

Moms, God is love and He loves us unconditionally! By His grace and love, He enables me to be the mom to my daughters and wife to my husband. I am thankful every single day I can be there for them, serve them and love them. They are the one who make me feel special every day!

New Identity

glorious-grace.010

We finished our HelloMornings Week 2 study. This week study an eye-opening for me. I don’t know how many times I have read this Ephesians 1:1-14, or heard someone preached about it, or I shared about it to others at a small group meetings, but this week God showed more deeper understanding of who I am, who we are in Christ Jesus when we trust in Him and follow Him.

One word that pop up to me every time I read this passage every day is PREDESTINE, in another word decided in advance.

he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will (Ephesians 1:5, ESV)

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. (Ephasians 1:5, NLT)

God has predestined us to be His children! Isn’t that an amazing truth to know that He has in planned since the beginning to make us His children, be part of His family? That’s the truth I wanna know and remember forever.

Knowing that God decided to choose me to be his child secures me. That truth gives me freedom. He is my Father! What could be more amazing than having the Best Dad ever, the One who has the power over everything, the One who controls everything?

He renew our lives. Through Jesus, His only Son, he forgave us, redeemed us and gave us new life in Jesus. We have new identity in Christ.

We are who we are in Christ now because of God’s grace and will. We are not who we were in the past or what people say about us. For a long time, I lived believing who I was under certain circumstances and what people told me who I was. I often asked my friends this question, “who do you think I am? what do you think I can do?” That because I didn’t have Jesus and the truth. That because I didn’t have self-image and didn’t feel secure. I lived to only make people to like me. That was temporary.

When I read this passage on my NLT Life Application Bible Study, these truths reveals who we are in Christ when we come to believe and trust in Him:

  • We are blessed with every spiritual blessings from heaven (Ephesians 1:3).
  • We are holy and found without fault (Ephesians 1:4).
  • We are adopted as God’s children (Ephesians 1:5,6).
  • We are redeemed and forgiven from our sins (Ephesians 1:7).
  • We are brought under Christ’s authority. He controls everything. (Ephesians 1:10,11)
  • We are identified as belonging to God by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13).

Ephesians1-1-14

I hope today, God will show you more of Him and give you wisdom to understand who you are in Him. I pray and ask God to continue enlighten your hearts and mine with His Holy Spirit as we read and search His word.

I link up this post at HelloMornings blog. Over there you will find lots of amazing ladies who link up their posts that will bless you! And if you would like to check out on the Bible Study that we are doing for this season, check it out here.

Love Like Jesus

When I wrote 1 John 3:16-17 today in 3 languages I speak, I am thinking and praying for those 209 million people speak about 1,967 languages, who do not have one single verse in the languages they understand best (source: Wycliffe Global Alliance). There are about 400 languages spoken by at least 190 million people in the country we will be going in South East Asia.
Today we can end the Bible poverty by praying and get involved with the Bible Translation movement around the world by partnering with Wycliffe Bible TranslatorsThe Seed Company and their sister organizations. You can join us in #WritetheWord movement every Wednesday hosting by The Seed Company to raise the awarness of the need of Bible Translations for the Bibleless People Groups in the world.
How?
  • Write God’s word on your journal,or maybe the verses from your daily Bible Study
  • Take a picture of it
  • Post and share your picture on Instagram, or Pinterest, or Facebook, or Twitter, pretty much on every social media you might have.
  • Add hashtag #WritetheWord and #EndBiblePoverty, when you tweet it and while you are there follow @theseedcompany, also follow them on InstagramFacebook and Pinterest.
  • Go to The Seed Company Blog and add your Instagram picture link there.

Easy!

All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, o LORD; they will bring glory to your name. (Psalms 86:9)

This Is More Than A Challenge

Before 2008, I always got up 4 o’clock in the morning, started my daily life with getting shower, ran to catch the bus, attended classes, went to work after class as part-timer, then went back home. I ended my days around 10 p.m. every day. That was my life when I was in Indonesia. My daily routine life was pushing me out of bed way early in the morning otherwise everything would be out of schedule.

I spent reading my Bible and listened to music on the way to my campus every morning because it took 2 hours from my parents’ house to the campus.

Since I moved to States after getting married, my routine shifted. Especially when I had nothing to do and then our first born baby arrived. Totally messed up my routine. I spent all my time to figure out what and how to become a mom and a wife, how to adjust with this new culture and life style. Everything is changed. The only thing that never ever change is GOD and his Word.

Yes, I found it difficult to wake up early in the morning since then. It’s been hard for me. Why? Because I have nothing to do or somewhere to be in the morning, I have no schedule at all, I have no priority, and I have no motivations at all. I feel that I am not a good wife and mom, nothing to compare with the woman describes in Proverbs 31 at all!

But I never stop asking God to show me how and help me to get on my feet in the morning, to do better serving my husband and my daughter (soon we will have 2 children!) and most of all to serve my Lord and King. I keep on praying and reading the Bible at any time, anywhere, any moment.

In the last couple of months, I have been following a Twitter feeds from several Christian women who have been encouraging me with their tweets. Through them I found Kat @ Inspired to Action. Kat with 9 other amazing women start a challenge called Hello Mornings, how to maximize our mornings as a child of God, follower of Christ, a wife, a mom and an encouraging friend to others.

THIS IS THE ANSWER TO MY PRAYER, I think. I am sure IT IS! God led me to this group of women who faithfully walk with God and share their testimonies to encourage other women. I need this. I need the motivation and help. Why?

Because we need others, who is stronger that us, to strengthen us in faith. And they are there for you and me.

Just like my friend, Meredith, says, “Being a mom and a wife is a never-ending non-stop job.” We need each other. This is a challenge for me. A challenge that I pray God will use it to maximize my life and my mornings for only for Him, that God will use and give wisdom to my Accountability Captains to motivate and to help me and my friends in our groups to life our lives in God’s glory, and that God will show His favor and love to all of us.

How are we gonna do this? Joining this challenge, participants will:

  1. experience quality time with God
  2. intentionally plan their mornings
  3. and exercise regularly

And how am I gonna do it?

  • I will go to bed when it’s time to go to bed as early as possible.
  • I will get up earlier that anyone in my house, that will be my husband and my girl (they are early risers!).
  • I will spend time with as my very first thing to do in the morning: listening to Audio Bible and reading  at the same time (writing journal, of course!).
  • Fixing breakfast for my husband and brewing our favorite coffee.
  • Get myself ready for my children to wake up and getting their breakfast ready.
  • and the list will goes on…

Those are the beginning and I pray that God will help me to start my day well with Him and finish it well with Him.

This is not just a challenge, this is more than that. This is a change of life style, from nothing to something. Everybody can do it with and through Christ Jesus who is the source of every thing we will need to walk with God, to serve and obey Him, to love Him and to show the world His love.

How do you maximize your morning? Do you want more that just what you have done so far?

Come and and join us at Hello Morning Fall Challenge, visit and register HERE. It’s not too late!
