Steve Jobs: inspiration and motivation for others

"Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn't matter to me. Going to bed at night saying we've done something wonderful - that's what matters to me." - Wall Street Journal, May 25, 1993

We all were sad and devastated when we heard the news about Steve Jobs passed away on Wednesday, October 5th, 2011. He died at 56 years old, too young to die, some people said, but we should be thankful that he is now free from all the pain caused by the pancreatic cancer he had. Even up until now, the people in the whole world are still mourning. But one thing that we have to remember him, most of all, he left us with such an amazing legacy on technology. He didn’t waste his life for someone else’s dream, but his own.

Here are some of his classic quotes that might give you some inspiration and motivations:

“You time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.” – Stanford University, June 12, 2005

“The problem is in hardware you can’t build a computer that’s twice as good as anyone else’s anymore. Too many people know how to do it. You’re lucky if you can do one that’s one-and-a-third times better or one-and-a-half better. And then it’s only six months before everybody else catches up. But you can do it in software. As matter of fact, I think that the leap that we’ve made is at least five years ahead of anybody.” –  Rolling Stone, June 16, 1994

Make An Easy Easel Card

My first easel card

My days were full of excitement and interesting events. We had 2 girls from our church youth group left for college this September. I am so thankful for them because they can continue their study, but also sad because won’t see them for quite a while (hopefully will see them during the Holidays! ^_^)

You how hard is the first couple weeks being away from home, family and friends, so we were encouraged to send them a card or anything to help them to settle down at their dorm and to overcome their homesickness. This is what I did. I made card for one of them today.

This is an Easel Card, a card that you can fold the front to be a standing easel so the recipient can put on the shelf or desk as decoration or memory. Beside that, it’s is also a card challenge from Scrapbook Challenges for this month. If you visit the website here, you will find the card sketch and step-by-step tutorial pictures. I guarantee that it’s easy and fun. It is not only can express your creativity by making this card, but also you can send to someone you know and love.

Introduction To Indonesian Language and Culture

Recently I made friend with a girl whom I met on Wycliffe Next Generation community website. She asked some questions about Indonesia because she will be moving there with her family soon for ministry. I remember some of the books that my husband got for himself in getting ready to go to Indonesia.

In your getting to know and preparation to go overseas (short term or long term), one thing among the others things on your preparation list is learning basic language and culture of the country. So here I would like to suggest you books that you can use to prepare your self and get some taste of Indonesian.

First book is Basic Indonesian, An Introduction Coursebook. You can try to order online from Barnes and Noble bookstore where we got it for my husband to learn Indonesian. This book comes with a Audio CD which will be helpful for you to listen and practice the pronunciation.

Reading Rocks

It’s been a busy and hard working day for me today (hehehe… laundry, dishes, etc… :D)

So while I was taking a break, I did this digital scrapbooking layout. I was inspired by the Color Challenge from Scrapbook Challenges. Theme of this month is RED, BLACK and WHITE.

Abigail LOVES The Cat In The Hat and other Dr. Seuss’ books. We got her a book, and 2 apps on her iPod. She also has Ten Apples On Top, ABC, 1 Fish 2 Fish, Oh The Places You’ll Go, Fox in Socks, Green Eggs and Ham, Horton, Sneetches, Yertle, Foot Book, and the Cat in the Hat comes back. She just LOVES all of them!

So combining those two themes and here it is…
