Five Minute Friday: Gift

A gift is always a surprise.

A gift is something that someone give to you for free, not for what you have done or what you have become.

A gift is a present that the giver knows well what we need.

A gift always brings joy, puts a big smile on your face and a speechless thanksgiving.

A gift is given out of love, pure love.

A true gift is given by God through His Son Jesus Christ, nothing in this world can compare to this gift from God.

I am surprised by God’s love in my life since I came to Him and to surrender my life under His lordship, through Jesus Christ.

This is the gift that I won’t ever ever ever trade with anything else in this world.

Salvation is a gift, not something we earn because we are being good and nice to others.

Grace is a gift, not something that we think we can have because we do what we’ve told to do.

Love is a gift, not something that we can buy with our money or trade with all the wealth in this world has.

Nothing can compare to the this Gift.

The ultimate gift of life from God is JESUS CHRIST.

Physically and Spiritually Sick

I’ve been sick for about 2 weeks now and I had no energy of doing anything, even sitting up or playing with my girl. I had no appetite for any food. Totally, I was so weak, tired and discouraged, spiritually and physically.

Today, I can sit up a little bit, checking e-mails and writing this short post.

I’ve been thinking since last night how I was suffering physically that really paralyzed me for the whole 2 weeks. When I laid down, in my heart I cried to God, my one and only true healer, to heal me and to strengthen me. Meditating God’s words was and is the only way to give me hope and faith in Christ Jesus, to know well in my heart that God is here with me and healing me.

I cannot imagine how suffering we are when we do not have Jesus. Our spirit is dying. Without Jesus and God’s word, we will have no hope at all. Without God’s spirit living in us and giving life to us, we actually physically and spiritually sick. We only need ONE HEALER, that is Jesus Christ and through Jesus Christ we are healed and renewed.

Do you need The Healer today?

A Way To Save Money

Saving money is important, but many people have failed in this area. I’ve failed too. I tried to do some things, but still haven’t seen something change yet. But it’s not impossible to start with a small step, to make a big change in the future.

Then I realized that every day I had to delete lots of emails from retailers and stores discounts here and there. Those emails are things that I do not NEED at all. Those are the “just in case I want it” emails. The more I read it, the more I want it. That is temptation of spending more money on something that we do not plan to. And I have spent too much time readings thise emails and deleted them at the end.

So, here’s what I do to stay away of that temptation: I unsubscribe from all those unnecessary and unimportant emails. And I feel free from temptation of buying things that I do not need.

That’s is just one of the ways of saving money and build up your saving for the future and emergency needs.

So, what would you do? Or what have you done to save money?

I Know What Poverty Is

Pictures taken by all Wycliffe Discovery Teams (2006-2008)

Bible poverty is a devastating problem hitting people around the world. It is more than 340 million people. That’s nearly one-third of the world’s language groups that do not have one verse of the Scripture in the language that they understand the best in their heart. In a previous post of mine here, I discussed a movement working to end Bible poverty, with organizations and actions that can make a big difference in people’s lives – spiritually, physically, economically and culturally. How having the Word of God can chane every aspect of our life, community and the whole world.

I know what poverty is. I know the feeling being hungry and have nothing to eat. I know how desperate people feel when they need something but they cannot afford to get it. I know, because I’ve been there, my family has been there and I used to live in a country where I can see poverty every where I went, every single day. I’ve seen these people only sleep under the Flyovers, Bridges, sleeping on a piece of cardboard at the sidewalk, or if they can they build a shelter out of cardboard. They are hungry, cold and try hard to find something to eat. I’ve seen kids digging in a trash can just for a food. I’ve seen a mother would take her baby and sing on a bus just to get some cash to buy her baby food. How could I ever forget those faces?

It’s not a fair life for them. It’s injustice. It’s not what God wants to see. It’s not what we wanna see.

If you ask them what would make their life better, they would say a good job, more money, able to go to school and food. That would help them feel better – think that having all of what they desire would give them a better life. Even though they would get every single thing they want, they are still going to lose their souls, Jesus said in Mark 8:36-38. They need God’s word, they need to know that they have eternal life with Christ. They need to know that above all, they need Jesus Christ, who can change their life, spiritually and physically.

Rest In Peace, My Friend

October 2007, Pelatihan Penerapan Linguistik dan Budaya (Applied Linguistics and Culture Training I)

Couple of days ago, I got very very sad news from Indonesia. My dear friend and fellow missionary, Rudy Suseno passed away few minutes later after he had a motorcycle accident in Salatiga, at 6 pm local time, on January 5, 2012.

He was commissioned to an UPG in Java island a day before (Jan 4, 2012). I just cannot imagine the situation and the grief of the family and friends because of this. Rudi was known as a wonderful friend, husband, father, hard-work man, and loving. We had been friends since we first met at Kartidaya Introductory Workshop in 2006, and  then together with other friends we continued the training to the Basic Linguistics Application Training at the same organization in 2007. Then I got married and moved to States with my husband, but still we all still communicating through emails and Facebook. Never lost contact, but not anymore. We cannot contact him, write him message, or even see him in person. He rested in peace now.
